The Illawarra has welcomed some of NSW’s top junior athletes, with St Mary Star of the Sea playing host to the annual NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Sports Awards on Monday night.

Holy Spirit College student Georgia Smyth represented the Illawarra contingent, receiving a Blue Award for swimming.
The teenager had a successful 2018, winning medals at both the Australian Age and School Sport Australia Swimming Championships.
The top awards of the evening were presented to swimmer Tim Hodge, of Patrician Brothers’ Blacktown, and athlete Ella Heeney of Mackillop College Port Macquarie.
Hodge, a 2016 Paralympian, won silver medals in the men’s SB8 100m breastroke and S9 100m backstroke events at the Commonwealth Games and picked up four gold medals and a silver at the Para Pan Pacific Games.
Long-distance runner Heeney won gold at the World Schools Under 18 Cross Country Championships in Paris.
