Shortly before 1am on Tuesday, Fire and Rescue NSW received a call to respond to a fire at Refratech in Doyle Avenue, Unanderra.
The company makes blocks for use in furnaces, burners and incinerators.
Seven fire trucks and 22 firefighters took on the blaze at the factory, which was empty at the time.
An assessment of the factory after the fire was put out found the structure remained intact but there was a lot of smoke and water damage.
At this stage the cause of the fire is undetermined, though police state there are no suspicious circumstances.
Police set up a crime scene on Tuesday morning ahead of the arrival of forensic investigators.
