As training has continued to hum along, the athletes have also been engaged in education sessions.
IAS athlete coach and program manager Dane Robinson said a particular focus has been placed on media skills in 2019.
“The Illawarra Academy of Sport programs focus on the holistic development of athletes,” Robinson said.
“Over the last month we have completed our first round of media skills sessions. Presenters Jared Constable and Tim Robinson provided the athletes with skills including public speaking, confidence, tips on dealing with difficult situations and interview techniques.
“Athletes put their skills into practice with a mock interview, which was recorded and analysed for feedback. Suggestions were then provided to the athletes on ways to improve.”
