Emergency services were called to a home on Gray Street, Woonona, after reports a woman had been injured.
Officers from Wollongong police and NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived to locate an unresponsive 76-year-old woman, who was unable to be revived.
A crime scene was set up and Wollongong detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Two men, aged 55 and 24, accompanied police to Wollongong police station.
Following inquiries, about 11.10am on Tuesday, the 55-year-old man was arrested at the station, where he remains assisting with police inquiries.
3.40pm: Homicide squad detectives are investigating the death of a 70-year-old woman whose body was found in her Woonona garden on Monday night.
It is believed the woman was last seen alive at the Grey Street address around 6pm.
Her body was found five hours later in the garden at the residence.
A crime scene was established while forensic officers examined the scene. They remain at the home on Tuesday afternoon.
Wollongong detectives and the homicide squad are investigating the death.
Sources say the injuries were inconsistent with a fall.
