The Kings confirmed that Gaze will depart at the conclusion of the club's upcoming finals campaign, the decision by "mutual agreement," ahead of the club's first post-season appearance since 2013.
“I guess as the season draws to an end and the club has to go about their business, we decided a while ago that I won’t be continuing as head coach of the Sydney Kings,” Gaze said.
“It’s one that I feel really comfortable with because the care and the way they approached the situation is one I’m extraordinary grateful for. I’m grateful for the opportunity."
Gaze's departure will naturally see Beveridge - who is close with the likes of Andrew Bogut, Kevin Lisch, Jerome Randle and Brad Newley - linked to a move north, though it's understood there's been no approach by either party.
In his Illawarra Mercury column last week, Beveridge said he's yet to speak to any club, in the NBL or otherwise, and will be taking a break before considering his future.
That position is unlikely to change in the immediate term, and even more unlikely change before Friday's club presentation evening in Wollongong
It's also seen whispers linking former Kings coach and Australian basketball great Shane Heal to the Hawks grow louder, though it's believed he's not currently interested in the role.
It comes amid reports that Joey Wright has coached his last game in Adelaide - he's tipped to explore opportunities in the US - while Perth coach Trevor Gleeson's future in the west is also uncertain despite his side's charge to a top-of-the-table finish this season.
