The hunt began last November after Strike Force Raptor South conducted a Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) search at a home at Towradgi as part of ongoing targeting and disruption of the illicit activities of criminal networks.
During the search, officers located and seized a semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun, a replica pistol, a revolver, and a rifle.
The subject of the FPO – a 21-year-old man – was not home at the time of the search and could not be located by police. A warrant for his arrest soon followed.
After extensive inquiries, Mr Smith was finally arrested at 11am on Thursday on the Princes Highway at Dapto.
He was charged with the warrant for three counts of possess prohibited firearm, two counts of possess prohibited pistol, two counts of possess unauthorised pistol, possess shortened firearm, two counts of possess unregistered firearm, four counts of breach of FPO, and not keep firearm safely.
He later made a brief appearance in Wollongong Local Court but did not apply for bail.
