By that I mean being part of a community is still both valued and tangible.
In many more larger cities that same sense is a lot harder to come by.
In the Illawarra it is still hiding in plain sight and most obvious when someone is in need.
This week we brought you some key examples of that.
The story of Thirroul girl Amelia Wilkinson and how the Illawarra is continuing to rally around Amelia and her family.
That community spirit is visible in the young people who are growing up here, like five-year-old Noah Harb who has started collecting sleeping bags and pillows for the homeless of Wollongong.
That's community. That's the Illawarra.
As much as we have to report on the bad things which happen in our community, we do also take a great deal of pride and joy in bringing you the rays of light shining around the place we call home.
