Jackie Trad, Queensland’s Deputy Premier, has told Queenslanders that coal mining must go, and miners will need to reskill.

Anyone who has even the slightest knowledge of this country’s trade history knows that Labor’s narrative is a fairy tale.

Demand for our coal has increased steadily for some time now and prices have been high.

Coal exportation is one of the most important contributors to our economic wellbeing.  

And at this stage, shutting down coal mining and coal exportation overnight by Labor-Green ideologues will result in disaster.

There will be no point reskilling redundant coal miners because employment will nosedive and, across Australia, there will only be jobs for a lucky few.

However, replacement jobs will eventually materialise, but not before our industry has been decimated and Australian workers reach a stage where they will work for peanuts.  

Then we will see a stampede of overseas investors wanting to set up employment-generating opportunities here in low skilled, low energy industries, because of Australia’s low labour cost.

Are the long-standing residents and new buyers of Corrimal property going sit to by and see the Wollongong City Council allow 700 odd residential properties to built on the Corrimal Coke Works site, I sincerely hope not.

Our wonderful town is almost at overload point - 200-odd residential properties to be completed on the old Corrimal Leagues Club land. Who knows how many in the verge complex, corner of Underwood and Russell Street, we are at breaking point.

The Cokeworks would be a wonderful open space area to break the congestion that will soon be occurring.

The talk about re-directing the creek water around the new units to be built is sheer madness, this causes flooding in other areas plus it would take water away from the wonderful Australian trees that are surviving in that area and no where else in Australia.

No one has mentioned about the contamination that must be in the ground after the Cokeworks being there over a hundred years  - that has gone unheard.

Wollongong City Council must take super care and notice of what they are thinking to allow such a monumental mistake in allowing residential development.

Get the greed out of the prospective rates coming in and look at the people who live here and have put you in the position you are in now.
