A COMPASSIONLESS TAX
In a recent Twitter, ‘Prime Minister in-waiting’ Bill Shorten said, and I quote: “Only Labor has a plan for a fair go for all Australians - and the team to deliver it”. Well my response to this diatribe is this. Does Shorten also consider the implementation of an unsympathetic ‘Death Tax’ to also be one of Labor’s “....plan for a fair go for all Australians...”, many of whom have entered, or are about to enter, their twilight years? This nonsense tax was abolished 40 years ago under the-then Labor Government. However, it’s abolition followed a public outrage that emanated from the then Joh Bjelke-Petersen Queensland State Government, and speedily fanned across the length and breadth of a bemused and vexed Australia. It was then jettisoned by Labor as a non-vote winner and consigned to a never-ever basket.

Turn to the current, 40 years later, the spectre of this most unfair and unsympathetic tax will again been rolled out as one of a number of uncaring ‘plans’ an avaricious Labor has in store for we Australians - a “...fair go for all Australians...” indeed? If Labor wins the looming election the tax will be rolled out and thrust onto Australia’s infirmed, frail and the mobile elderly. This compassionless tax has been the results of the vociferous urgings from various unions arms, Labor’s financial masters.

A POOL STINK
I would like to invite our Lord Mayor and all of his cronies in council to come and have a swim at our refurbished Austinmer pool, it is chock a block with sea weed. It has been full of weed for the last week but the latest tides has washed more in and it's floating on top.
It was stated in the Illawarra Mercury about a month ago that the pool was finished, this is far from the truth. They have wrecked it.It has taken four years and over two million dollars of ratepayers money to repair a hole that did not worry anybody anyway because it filled up at least twice a day with the tide.
What sort of engineers ,project managers and contractors do this council employ? The back sea wall that was built is higher and wider than the original and is not letting the tide flush it out. Locals say they have never seen it as bad.It is a major concern to all that use the pool as it is starting to stink and could cause health problems. This problem should be addressed.

DO NOT GENERALISE
In response to the letter by Ben Morris, "Sins Of The Father" (Illawarra Mercury, Friday March 1, 2019), child sex abuse has (sadly) happened in institutions across a variety of areas including sport. This is not to excuse the Catholic Church which deserves criticism for ignoring victims and covering up this filthy business. I remind Mr Morris that the findings of Royal Commission into Union Governance and Corruption found a number of union representatives guilty of fraud and misuse of members money. Yet, it does not mean all union representatives are corrupt and/or all unions are bad.
Similarly, the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Sex Abuse found seven percent of Catholic priests were guilty of child sex abuse. So how can you imply that all Catholic priests and bishops are guilty when you consider those findings?
