Resuming at 0-27, Tasmania reached 0-112 at lunch on day four after being set a massive 476 for victory.
Openers Alex Doolan (60 off 150 balls) and Jordan Silk (41 from 114) dug in and offered no chances to the home side.
Tasmania's strong showing across 44 overs in their second innings contrasts with their first dig in which the top-order slumped to 4-96, before the visitors eventually posted 286.
A win for Victoria would give them one hand on a ticket to the Shield final, while a draw keeps open a four-cornered contest including New South Wales, Western Australia and Tasmania.
Victoria had few troubles with the wicket on day three, with young gun Will Pucovski scoring a confident unbeaten 131 not out as the home side eased to 3(dec)-307.
