The man was attempting to climb the cliff around 6.30pm when he slipped and fell about five metres onto the rock platform below.
NSW Ambulance Illawarra district Inspector Terry Morrow said the man hit his head in the fall and was knocked unconscious.
The man's son was on the beach when he noticed his father's body sprawled out on the rocks and sounded the alarm.
Paramedics and Police Rescue arrived a short time later to find the man conscious but disorientated.
"He was speaking confused and had an obvious head injury with a large laceration to the forehead that required treatment," Mr Morrow said.
The patient also received precautionary treatment for spinal injuries, a possible fractured pelvis and contusions to both his lungs.
A Toll rescue helicopter landed on the rock platform about 7.30pm.
Police Rescue officers carried the man to the chopper before he was flown to St George Hospital in a stable condition.
