Police confirmed the body of a man aged in his 30s was found near the railway tracks at North Wollongong about 7.40am.
Initial inquiries suggest there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, a police spokeswoman said.
Commuters are getting through, but northbound trains on the South Coast Line are delayed about 11 minutes, a spokesman from Sydney Trains said.
The man has not yet been formally identified, and police inquiries are continuing.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
