A man’s hand has been partially severed after he was attacked with a machete at Warrawong on Tuesday morning.

The 25-year-old man was in the rear courtyard of a property on Northcliffe Drive, when he was approached by a man wearing dark clothing and carrying a large machete about 4.20am.
Police have been told a confrontation took place, before the armed man struck the 25-year-old in the arm and legs with the machete.
He then left the scene and emergency services were notified.
The injured man was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of a serious hand injury and a cut to the back of his legs.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established a crime scene and an investigation into the attack is under way.
