Councillors adopted the Fairy Creek Corridor master plan at the council meeting on Monday night after extensive consultation with the community.
The plan will see Wiseman's Park, Greenacre Road Reserve and Gilmore Park - the area located along Fairy Creek and between Mount Keira Road, Keira Mine Tramway track and the M1 Motorway - upgraded over coming years.
The council wants to protect and enhance the nature areas of the reserves, improve pathways and connections for pedestrians and cyclists and upgrade sporting facilities so it becomes a well-used recreational hub for residents.
The section from Acacia Avenue to Greenacre Road will include a cross country track, a wide shared-use footpath, interpretative artwork celebrating the heritage of the tramway link, open space, fitness stations including parkour equipment and new trees.
Near Wiseman Park, the playground will be relocated to a safer location near amenities, which will become accessible and there will be new change rooms.
The council will make sportfield lighting upgrades, improve pedestrian safety, will create a raised boardwalk and the William Wiseman memorial will be relocated to a more prominent position. Exercise equipment, shelter and barbecues will be placed in the park as well.
There will also be a new Gywnneville Village Square created, near Gipps Road, which will have street furniture, paving, plants and artwork.
The majority of respondents supported the master plan and the five who did not wanted to maintain the natural state of the area.
"Formal footpaths will provide a more accessible area," the council's report said. "It is not proposed to change the natural feel of the area but to improve ability for the broader community to enjoy in an inclusive manner."
The council included community feedback in the plan, including more street trees, wider footpaths, bike racks, seating, bubblers and an accessible barbecue.
The Wiseman Park amenities renewal, lighting upgrades, Gilmore Park amenities and new playground will be complete before or in 2023. The other upgrades and additions are unfunded at this stage.
