Tickets for the Wollongong Spiegeltent may be selling faster than previous years but organisers are calling for public support to secure its return for years to come.
For a third year running the antique mirrored tent will serve up a variety of cabaret, circus, music and comedy in the Arts Precinct from April 11 until May 5. So far comedians like Lano and Woodley, Tom Gleeson and Judith Lucy are looking set to sell out.
But Merrigong Theatre Company artistic director Simon Hinton said bringing the venue to the Illawarra was an expensive task and creating the program was quite complex.
Previous years have averaged around 15,000 tickets sold, but Mr Hinton would love to see 20,000 this season.
"We originally committed to three years … and we'll certainly look at it," Mr Hinton said.
"It certainly has become a really great annual thing on the Wollongong calendar, but these things are expensive to put on and take a lot of resources, so we have to look at it sensibly.
"If Wollongong can really support it and get it up to that 20,000 ticket mark it changes it for us and a lot of things become a bit more possible."
