Consistently heavy rain has been falling across the city's southern and western suburbs, but there has been little recorded in the CBD.
According to data from the Bureau of Meteorology, 53mm has been recorded at Cringila (Jarvie Road) between (9am and 9pm), with 51mm at Mount Kembla in the same period. There are unconfirmed reports up to 100mm of rain has fallen in some areas.
Just 1.6mm has fallen at Albion Park, while Bellambi's rain gauge has recorded nothing.
The State Emergency Service's Wollongong City Unit says the intense rain has led to flash flooding in Unanderra, Cringila, Springhill and Port Kembla.
The SES has warned further flash floods are possible in areas of storm activity.
No warnings have been issued by the bureau.
