NSW Ambulance crews, State Emergency Service crews, NSW Fire and Rescue, Wollongong police and a rescue helicopter were all tasked to the operation.

Earlier: A rescue operation is currently underway to winch an injured paraglider to safety at Bald Hill Lookout at Stanwell Tops.

Emergency services were called just after 5pm on Wednesday, with reports a 25-year-old man had been blown onto a cliff ledge.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Norm Rees said the victim was inaccessible by land as he had crashed into rocks about 200 to 300 metres above the ocean, on the north side of the lookout.

Inspector Rees said there was potential for the man to fall into the ocean due to wind.

Initial assessment of the patient was he suffered an ankle injury.

Paramedics, police and firefighters are also on scene.
