No one was badly injured in the crash, which happened near the Mount Keira Road overpass.
One woman, believed the be aged in her mid-40s was taken to Wollongong Hospital complaining of neck pain.
9.20am: All southbound lanes on the M1 Princes Motorway have reopened after an earlier four-car crash southbound near Mount Keira Road.
However, southbound traffic remains heavy in the area and motorists should continue to allow extra time until traffic returns to normal.
9am: Motorists have been warned to expect lengthy delays following a crash reportedly involving four vehicles on the M1 Princes Motorway at West Wollongong.
The crash, which happened just before 8.30am on Thursday, has closed two of the motorway's three southbound lanes near Mount Keira Road.
As a result, southbound traffic on the motorway is queued about 3km, back onto Mount Ousley and Memorial Drive.
Emergency services and traffic crews are on site.
The NSW Transport Management Centre has warned drivers to expect delays.
