Former real estate agent Brooke Hughes, 35, has this week opened The Sip Studio on Kembla Street because she saw a gap in the market.
Art classes run evenings from Wednesday through to Sunday with art supplies included in the price, though the wine is BYO.
"It's a long way to drive to Sydney to do one of these, and it's not accessible for everyone down here to do," Miss Hughes said.
"There seemed to be an opening in the market for it, Wollongong is quite culturally diverse and it's emerging and changing. So I thought Wollongong's ready for something like this."
While the concept of an art classy and a beverage isn't new, there are no other permanent venues in the Illawarra offering the experience.
Eager artists can choose from a selection of art teachers with different styles and using different products, such as acrylic paint or coloured resin. Students keen to continue their night out can also leave their canvas to be picked up at a later date.
Miss Hughes said once she settles into the new business she hopes to incorporate day classes and children's classes (but without the wine).
A two-hour session is $60 with group bookings also available, and can be booked online: www.thesipstudio.com.au
