Following further investigations, Anthony Sampieri, 55, who appeared in Central Local Court on Thursday, was charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with child under 10.
On November 15, 2018, emergency services were called to a Derby Street dance studio bathroom, after reports of the concern for welfare of a child and the stabbing of a man who came to her aid.
Police will allege in court that the man physically and sexually assaulted a seven-year-old girl at the building.
Two other men confronted and attempted to detain the man, leaving one of the men, 46, with several stab wounds. That man has since made a full recovery.
An investigation was launched by detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad under Strike Force Berliet.
Sampieri, a convicted rapist, was on parole on the night of the Kogarah attack.
He remains in custody and is next due to appear at the same court on May 30. Investigations are continuing.
