On Friday, the Mercury reported on federal government plans to develop a business case for faster rail between Wollongong and Sydney.
The Mercury readers response via Facebook was effectively - "yeah, right".
"On federal radar? Enough said - will happen in 2968," wrote Dom Hartley.
James Gray said there must be an election coming.
"Heard it all before," he wrote. "Not going to happen in my lifetime."
Che Williamson also pointed out "faster rail" is brought up at election time.
"Any political party that pulls this one out is straight-up lying," she wrote.
"It's just not gonna happen."
Brian Heaton won't be holding his breath, waiting to buy a ticket for the faster train.
"I'll believe it if I see it. Otherwise dream on."
Laurie Slater had a simple message for Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
"Tell him he's dreaming," she wrote.
