Political commentators were predicting Mr Evans' hold on the seat was in doubt given the number of visits Premier Gladys Berejiklian made to the electorate in the weeks prior to the election.
Ms Berejiklian even visited an Engadine polling booth in the afternoon on Saturday in a last ditch effort to secure votes for Mr Evans. She also called the MP "every night".
On Sunday afternoon, Mr Evans won 55.6 per cent of the two-party preferred vote with a swing of 2.4 per cent swing against him to Labor's Maryanne Stuart.
He won most polling places but lost at least Heathcote High School, Bundeena Community Centre, Helensburgh Public School and Coledale Public School booths to Ms Stuart.
The Liberal MP said he visited almost all of the polling booths in his electorate to thanks the volunteers, supporters and to get out and talk to voters.
Mr Evans said it had been a tough election campaign given he did not have a campaign manager for the past six weeks.
He said Ms Berejiklian called the him almost "every night" in the lead to the election.
"My wife has been my manager even though she has no training," he said. "We ran a good, honest campaign. The Labor union through everything at us."
"I have known the Premier for 30 years and she is an absolute rock," Mr Evans said. "She rings me just to make sure I am okay."
