A BlueScope spokesman said the 56-year-old contractor, who was working one of the charging cranes, felt faint due to low blood pressure and asked others in the plant to call an ambulance.
Fire and Rescue NSW officers brought in the Bronto rescue vehicle - a large, cherry picker-type vehicle - to reach the man and bring him down.
The man, who was working in the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS) plant within the steelworks, has been taken to hospital.
