Prior to performing at the Servo Food Truck Bar on Wentworth Street on Sunday April 7, Ash Grunwald will lead an army of fans to clean up Red Point.
"Having a profile definitely helps having a larger outreach of people available to you," the performer told the Mercury. "I also think it is a responsibility of people with a profile to use their voice for positive change rather than only personal gain."
Grunwald has teamed with Earth Bottles and Illawarra social enterprise Fair Food Forager to "hold up a banner of action" in various cities throughout the year.
The collective have also scheduled beach cleans in Merimbula and Mollymook on the South Coast, with further dates to come.
Grunwald said so far the feedback to the "Taking Out The Trash tour" had been fantastic.
"I think everybody knows that single use plastic is choking our oceans and people appreciate any step however small in the right direction," the Just Be Yourself singer said.
"People have been really positive about wanting to join in and help."
We only have one Earth so why wouldn't we want to look after her?
- Ash Grunwald
Being a father makes looking after the planet even more important for the star, who urged people to pick up three pieces of rubbish whenever they are at a beach or waterway as well as cut single-use plastic from their lives.
"It is important to do our best to educate our kids and ourselves so we can live in the most healthy environment as possible," Grunwald said.
"We only have one Earth so why wouldn't we want to look after her?"
Ash Grunwald and friends will run an underwater and rock platform clean up of Red Point, Port Kembla from 9am to 10:30 on April 7.
Grunwald will then perform at the Servo Food Truck Bar from 2pm - limited tickets available from events.humanitix.com.au
