The 72-year-old man, who can't be named for legal reasons, chose not to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday during a brief mention.
Police documents reveal the man has been charged with eight offences stemming from the alleged incident, the most serious of which centres on allegations he detained the child against her will over a 35-hour period between 12pm last Thursday and 11pm on Friday.
During that time he is alleged to have touched her private parts.
The documents say the man has an extensive criminal history and is on the child protection register for life because of previous offences.
