It was only four years ago when Meaney, 27, got serious about his dreams and enrolled in the Sydney Film School. He has since appeared in television commercials for major brands, has been cast in two seasons of the popular web series Thirty, while the auditions have started to roll in thick and fast in 2019.
Meaney plays the lead of Chuck Ramsay in Workin Nights (written and directed by Adam Speranza), a contract killer who becomes infatuated with a woman at a bar (played by Demi Worrad-Turner).
The film premiered in Sydney earlier this month, with the star's elderly grandparents both attending and "loving it" despite the graphic content.
"My pop has always done this thing when people swears, he does little coughs to try and cover it, and it was like he was having a fit," Meaney said.
To complete the film the actor juggled full-time work in auto-care with spare moments for filming in northern Sydney. He said he couldn't have done it without his grandparents who offered a place to stay and meals on the table after long days.
"I'm really proud of the film and I feel like I'm on the right path. It's a very long hustle game but i'm in it for the long haul," Meaney said.
The rest of the actor's family and friends will get to see the film when it screens in Wollongong, with public tickets also available through www.eventbrite.com.au
