Primary and secondary students from 10 northern Illawarra schools have been producing bright colourful banners to be displayed for the duration of the Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival.
The project titled Wrapt in Art will wrap and decorate 25 telegraph poles in Thirroul between April 4-7.
The theme was Big, Bold and Bright, to reflect the festival.
Woonona Public School teacher Mia Westbrook encouraged 22 students from her school to get involved painting the canvas banners over the past four weeks.
She said it was a great community initiative and Woonona was thrilled to be involved.
Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival committee member Ian Brown was excited and encouraged to have such great participation from the local schools.
Stanwell Park, Austinmer, Thirroul, St Michaels, Bulli, Waniora, Woonona and Woonona East public schools contributed to the project alongside Bulli and Woonona high school students.
The festival, a project of the Austinmer-Thirroul Lions Club is a not for profit event and all funds raised are donated back into the community, with some $1.2m donated since 1993.
