A 52-year-old Lake Heights man, who is non-verbal, was walking along Northcliffe Drive pushing a trolley. He makes the trip from his home to Warrawong CBD daily.
A 36-year-old woman from Warrawong ran at the man and allegedly stole several plastic bags carrying his personal items from his trolley at about 6.40pm.
Four people saw the theft from their car and heard the screams from the victim as he attempted to chase the woman whilst pushing his trolley.
The witnesses gave chase and stopped the woman. They waited until Lake Illawarra police arrived to arrest the woman and the stolen property was returned to the man.
The woman was charged with stealing and was given bail to reappear at Port Kembla Court on May 1.
