The Mercury has again nominated the Friends of the Garden as our charity of choice for the 2019 Polytrack Provincial Editors Championship Final to be run as part of the huge day of racing in Sydney on Saturday.
As a result, the Mercury and the Friends have three runners in the final and if one wins it will result in $5000 for the volunteer organisation.
The Friends and the Mercury have already partnered to win this event twice before, in 2016 and 2017.
The three runners in Saturday's final for the Friends are Miss Redoble (26-1), Bye See (26) and Eugene's Pick (17-1).
"The Wollongong Botanic Garden is a place pretty dear to our hearts in this community and the Friends do a wonderful job helping to look after it," Illawarra Mercury editor Julian O'Brien said.
"We've got a couple of good chances, the best of which will be the locally-trained grey Eugine's Pick so we'll be watching on with interest."
Every charity in the race receives $500 just for taking part as a nominated charity.
