But the good work of principal Nicole Riley is reaping rewards with improved results in and out of the classroom impressing staff and parents alike.
It has also impressed Whitlam MP Stephen Jones, who dropped by the school on Friday.
Mr Jones was also excited that moves were afoot to create a more inclusive interactive learning environment for stage three students at the school.
He said should Labor win the upcoming federal election, it would provide $45,000 to the school.
"This money will be used to upgrade this classroom to make an interactive learning environment," Mr Jones said.
"There will be new furniture to redecorate the classroom to ensure it is a learning environment that kids are excited to come to school for."
This commitment was welcomed by parent Kelly Lennard, who added the upgrade would also open up the adjoining classroom, allowing students to work together.
"As part of a program, groups of students are doing 20-minute blocks of learning which sees them move from one station to another. This upgrade will allow them to move freely from class to class to work together and help each other," Mrs Lennard said.
Mr Jones said students of all abilities stood to benefit.
"It is about bringing them all together so they've got their own individual learning plan, they are all sitting in the same space, helping each other and having one on one attention. It's also about ensuring they have a learning environment that supports those goals," he said.
"If we are elected a school like this under our funding model will be about $230,000 better off.
"That will provide additional resources for those learning support officers who make such a difference to the kids, particularly if they are struggling or they need individual learning plans."
