On Tuesday (April 16), Mission Australia and Family and Community Services will host the inaugural Bundaleer Saltwater Festival.
The event will take place at Howard Fowles Park, Warrawong from 10am to 2pm.
Residents living at the Bundaleer social housing estate can attend the free festival.
There will be a barbecue provided by the Koori Men's Group, an art exhibition including works from emerging indigenous artists and Coomaditchie Aboriginal Corporation, a photo booth, live music and more.
Visitors to the festival will also have access to information stalls of more than 25 local community and government organisations.
These include Mission Australia, Barnardos, FACS, Warrawong Community Centre, Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation, Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service, Wellways, Anglicare and CatholicCare.
The new annual festival aims to highlight the range of services and supports available to people living at Bundaleer social housing estate.
"The Bundaleer Saltwater Festival is a great opportunity for children, young people and their families who are part of the Bundaleer social housing estate to unwind, have some fun and make some memories," Mission Australia regional leader for Illawarra and South Coast Brett Fahey said.
"It's a chance for residents to try their hand at new things, make friends and connect them with local groups, services and artists in the area, as well as inspire ongoing participation in a range of activities."
The festival is an initiative of the Place Planning program, whereby Mission Australia and FACS work alongside the community living at Bundaleer.
The aim is to strengthen community ties for residents, link residents with support services and provide feedback to agencies on potential community improvements.
