Matthew Panopoulos left a job at Nowra Anglican College with a dream to be his own boss in a competitive industry, and use his musical knowledge to create catchy advertising jingles for television and radio.
"I always liken what I write to nursery rhymes as best I can, and in terms of how I structure them, because they're not supposed to be amazing pop songs people are just meant to remember them," he said. "I'd like to get to the point where - at least on the South Coast - where I have a bit of a name."
The 27-year-old and his dad single-handedly built the Pantonal Productions recording studio on Terralong Street in Kiama, in a business collective which also hosts a yoga and meditation studio.
Not long after opening his doors, the entrepreneur was awarded a $10,000 novelty cheque by Pizza Hut, winning their "Share Good Tunes" jingle writing competition.
"The dream would be [to one day write a jingle] for a massive software company like Apple or Sony or XBox," he said. "They all have their unique start up sounds ... so that every time someone turns it on they're hearing what I've done."
