Wrong.

Government legislation in 1983, produced policy changes that enabled the rerouting of taxes into a private government run institution-Treasury Corporation (TCorp).

And later changes to the act, authorised TCorp to employ its own Chief Executive and staff and board of directors.

With $94 billion funds under management (June 2018). TCorp is one the largest institutional investment funds in the country.

The principal object of TCorp is to provide financial services for the benefit of the Government, eligible clients, public authorities, other public bodies.

My view is, the New South Wales government through the aid of their lending/investment business (TCorp) have deserted the needs of the people.

There is a wave of rank inequality engulfing the state; where the majority of the people, through no fault of their own, are struggling financially. Whereas, the moneyed recipients of government wealth inflating policies, continue to live their opulent lifestyles, without any effective pecuniary restraint.

The taxation system is unfair. We need a change in direction.

I refer to the contribution "Do your research" (John Ernst, Illawarra Mercury, April 11). In his letter Mr Ernst makes some interesting , if inaccurate statements on a number of subjects including the assumption that the recent demonstration by school students demanding action on climate change was motivated by "left leaning teachers and lecturers ", accusing them of brainwashing the students. He also remarks that the students attitude was "most offensive", "bullying and disrespectful".

I was an interested observer of the demonstration and found no indication that the demonstration was either "disrespectful" or "offensive" .

In fact I find this generation to be more politically savvy and informed than most who have gone before. Furthermore, I could find no evidence that the demonstrators were influenced by teachers or lecturers , left wing or otherwise.

Their concerns fuelled by their own observations of current extreme weather events. Only those who refuse to acknowledge the reality of climate change and see the concern of students as a challenge to their own personal political bias could take such a view.

I also found Mr Ernst to be somewhat confused when he asks if the student spokesperson was aware that "scientists have stated to a Senate Committee last year re climate change" that the recent heatwaves, flood and bushfire events are "unprecedented".

He then goes on to say that on taking a look at Australia's weather patterns, "nothing has changed." According to my dictionary, the definition of "unprecedented" is "being without precedent;. preceded by no similar event". Perhaps Mr Ernst should do his research.
