The weather forecast says it will be a beautiful and sunny Easter weekend across the Illawarra and there is plenty to see and do,
The Easter Family Fun Day at the Wollongong Botanic Garden, hosted by the Rotary Club of Wollongong, has quickly become a popular part of the Wollongong events program and is expected to attract thousands of people on Saturday.
It is a free event and is based on the old-fashioned picnics communities used to hold dear with events such as egg and spoon races, sack races and the like.
There are over 35,000 eggs to giveaway to kids at the event and food and drinks for sale, but you can also take a picnic along if you wish.
The event perfectly captures what a community event should be about at this time of year.
It sees people of all ages and all walks of life come together to share the same space and have some fun. This is what Easter holidaying should be about. The event starts at 9 am, finishing mid afternoon.
If you are after a more sideshow alley experience, the annual Towradgi Annual East Show is also on Saturday. It starts at 10 am and goes through to 5 pm.
ANOTHER EVENT WIN
Wollongong's event calendar had another big win on Thursday with the announcement of a massive supercross event.
Wollongong's iconic WIN Stadium will p[lay host to the third round of the 2019 Australian Supercross Championship in November.
A track for the event will be built inside the stadium even including the stadium's famous hill and will attract a big crowd into the city.
The event will also see a two-day festival of motorcycles in support.
The securing of the championship round will only heighten this city and region's growing reputation as the place to bring a major event.
