Rotary Club of Wollongong and the Wollongong Botanic Garden hosted the event that saw more 35,000 chocolate Easter eggs handed out to smiling children.
Families soaked up the sunny weather and brought along their egg baskets, picnic blankets and eskys.
Club president Dot Hennessy said people thanked volunteers for hosting a "wonderful day".
"Many people said the activities were great and enjoyed going on the eggsploration to get chocolate eggs," she said.
"It was great that the activities took parents and children to parts of the garden that many would not have gone to otherwise.
"There were lots of eggs handed out, lots of smiles on faces and lots of fun was had.
"It was a great community event."
Wollongong City Council's marketing officer Alison Morgan said this year was more popular than previous years.
She liked how children had to complete four activities throughout the garden to receive chocolate eggs during the Easter Eggsploration.
"This activity was a little different to last year and meant the activities were more spread out so people saw more of the garden and not all the chocolate was eaten at once," Ms Morgan said.
There were also classic family fun games including a sack race and egg and spoon race.
Live music also kept families entertained while they had a picnic lunch.
Ms Hennessy said the Rotary Club, which put on the barbecue, sold out of all the food.
She thanked the organisers, volunteers and sponsors for making the day a success.
The event will be held again on Easter Saturday next year
