There is a wonderful African proverb which says: "If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

There is so much a connected community can do together.
We are blessed we live in a place where we value all that "community" has to offer.
We can come together peacefully and enjoy the wonderful things that being part of a passionate community has to offer.
On a bright and warm Easter Saturday an estimated crowd of about 5000 people came together at the Wollongong Botanic Garden.
Now in its third year, the Easter Family Fun Day has quickly grown as a much loved community event for the Illawarra held in the most perfect venue.
The Wollongong Botanic Garden is an invaluable treasure right in the heart of our city.
This year the event took place all around the gardens and gave families a chance to see the many varied parts of this unique and under-rated attraction.
The day is based on the picnics of yesteryear.
It's free for people to come along and take part in the events such as sack and egg and spoon races.
The event is a joint initiative of the Rotary Club of Wollongong and the Wollongong Botanic Gardens.
It would not be possible without the fantastic support and sponsorship from the Friends of the Wollongong Botanic Garden and supporting sponsors such as BlueScopeWIN Community Partners program, i98, Peoplecare, Big Fat Smile, Wollongong City Council and of course the Illawarra Mercury.
Congratulations to all who made this possible and thanks to those who attended for making it the great community event.
The smiles on the faces of the kids were priceless.
Please if you are traveling home on the roads over the next couple of days, take it steady and be patient.
Remember the double demerits period still applies and we want everyone to get home safely as long as it takes.
Safe and happy travels.
