The Tigers will head into Wednesday's clash brimming with confidence after they dominated Sydney on Saturday night for a 22-point win.

Fellow star Dustin Martin returned from suspension and kicked three goals, while acting captain Shane Edwards was outstanding again off half-back in the 13.11 (89) to 10.7 (67) win at Marvel Stadium.

They now have four days to prepare for the match against Melbourne, who like Sydney are languishing with a 1-4 record.

"I would say he (Riewoldt) is highly likely ... he ran and trained today, from memory, so he'll have another session with our development squad," Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said.

Riewoldt (wrist), captain Trent Cotchin (hamstring) and Alex Rance (knee) were missing on Saturday night, but the Tigers followed up from last week's upset win over Port Adelaide with another strong all-round performance.

The win was a lot more comprehensive than the 22-point margin suggests.

"The pleasing thing from my point of view is the way we played tonight - it looked really Richmond-like, it was incredible,' Hardwick said.

The Swans suffered from a plague of turnovers, but there was a silver lining in Lance Franklin's four goals.

That took him past Essendon great Matthew Lloyd to seventh on the AFL's all-time goal-scorers table with 928.

While the Swans are struggling, coach John Longmire backed them to bounce back.

"We've been in similar situations and been able to get ourselves going," he said.

"But it is not a matter of talking about it, it's a matter of getting out there and doing it.

"We also know that it's not done through anything other than hard work.

"There's no question it's a different team ... it doesn't change our belief we can turn it around."

Richmond's first 12 goals came from turnovers, summing up their pressure on Sydney.

Franklin's third goal, a mark and a superb kick from an acute angle in the third quarter, took him to seventh on the goals list.

But overall it was a frustrating night for Franklin, who was starved of effective supply and Longmire said he needed more support.

At halftime, Sydney were in front for disposals, clearances, hitouts, marks and free kicks.

But the story of the game was Richmond dominating the tackle count 44-25 and inside 50s 33-20 at the main break.

The Tigers had pressured the Swans out of the game as they broke out to a decisive 33-point halftime lead.

Sydney staunched the damage in the second half with six goals to four, but they never looked like overrunning the Tigers.

Returning from his one-game striking ban, Martin played mostly as their centre half-forward, with occasional forays into the middle, and was dangerous throughout.
