Earlier this month, Australian Border Force officers examined a wooden furniture delivery which had arrived in Sydney from South Africa.
The container was taken to the Sydney Container Examination Facility to undergo an x-ray, where officers noticed anomalies in the shipping crates.
The delivery was deconstructed and found to contain 68 kilograms of cocaine in 61 packages.
The drugs have an estimated street value of $34 million.
NSW Police, Border Force and the Australian Federal Police formed Strike Force Warranbool to investigate the import.
Following extensive inquiries, officers yesterday arrested and charged 45-year-old South African national at a Campbelltown storage facility in relation to the crime.
The man allegedly accessed the goods - which police had been taken to the facility in a controlled delivery - just before 2.30pm yesterday.
Investigators executed three search warrants in Campbelltown and seized items relevant to the investigation.
The 45-year-old man was charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and possession of a commercial quanity of an unlawful import. He was refused bail to face court today.
Investigations under Strike Force Warranbool continue.
