The Illawarra junior rugby union representative season is off to a tough start after a difficult opening weekend of Country Championships.

Last weekend saw the under 12, under 13 and under 14 teams travel out to Tamworth to vie for the title of Country Champions.
The under 12s won their first two matches before falling to Central North. Hunter then proved too good in the semi-final, claiming a 36-5 victory. The side then lost in the third-placed playoff.
The under 13s opened their weekend with two victories on Saturday before defeating Central West in the semi-final. The win set up a final against Hunter, however, it was the northerners who claimed the title with a 28-0 victory.
The under 14s also went two from two on Saturday, however they fell to Central West 17-5 in the semi-final. The team also lost in the third-place playoff.
This weekend will see the under 15 and under 17 girls and opens boys teams in action in Crescent Head.
