Fire stations across the Illawarra will throw open their doors to the public this weekend, giving residents the chance to meet their local firefighters and learn about fire safety ahead of winter.

Saturday might be federal election day, but while you're out and about to cast your vote you can also join in on the fun of Fire and Rescue NSW's (FRNSW) open day.
The annual event will see a number of stations across the region open between 10am and 2pm, giving members of the community a glimpse into Australia's busiest fire and rescue service.
Each station will offer a range of free activities, including firefighting demonstrations and tours.
Kids will have the chance to hop on a fire truck and see firefighting equipment up close.
FRNSW Thirroul captain Hedley Privett said this year's event was also being used to remind people that firefighters do plenty more than just fighting fires.
"From chemical spills, car accidents and natural disasters to education, prevention and humanitarian relief ... our firefighters are prepared for anything, anywhere, anytime," Captain Privett said.
"When people see a fire truck they still assume we are going to a building fire but we do so much more than that, in fact, it's more likely we are going to a car accident or assisting NSW Ambulance."
