But that's not what Dapto will get when it comes to an accessibility upgrade.

That image - which may have gotten Dapto residents' hopes up - has since been removed from the Transport for NSW website.

Despite being at ground level with a crossing to both sides of the platform at the southern end, the station has issues in terms of disabled access.

"The level crossing used to access the ramp to Dapto station has been assessed as difficult for wheelchairs to negotiate," a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.

With an upgrade for Dapto in the early stages of planning, an artist's impression of the station with lifts was released - even though that seemed an expensive option to improve access.

However, Transport for NSW is looking at a less expensive option for Dapto.

"Transport for NSW is planning to upgrade the existing pedestrian level crossing to comply with Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport," a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.

"This would ensure safe access across the corridor without the need to build a new pedestrian footbridge and lifts, also providing greater value for money for NSW taxpayers."

The spokesperson said there may be other improvements to the station, which will be included in the finished concept design.

That design will be available to the public as part of the Review of Environmental Factors as the project progresses.

At this stage it is unclear when the project will have progressed to that stage.
