Last month Roads and Maritime Services upgraded the intersection of Five Islands Road and Flinders Street.
The intersection was reshaped to increase water run-off and the road resurfaced to improve "skid resistance".
That work was carried out as part of a Safer Roads project to improve the safety at the area.
The $850,000 program for the area also included a review of the speed limit.
As a result, Roads and Maritime Services has reduced the 80km/h speed limit along a section of Five Islands Road from this week.

Previously, motorists heading north along King Street at Warrawong would see the speed limit switch from 60km/h to 80km/h just after they crossed the Wattle Street-Five Islands Road intersection.
However, the change to the speed limit will see the 60km/h speed limit extended to around 200 metres north of the newly-upgraded Flinders Street intersection.
"The review assessed a number of factors including crash history, road geometry, road usage, traffic volumes and access points," an RMS spokeswoman said.
"In the five years to 2017, there were 56 crashes on this section of Five Islands Road.
"The extension of the 60km/h speed limit for a further 700 metres in both directions, along with the intersection upgrade, will make it safer for motorists and is aimed at reducing the likelihood of crashes."
