This July, the X Trial Australian Championship will bring their Final to WIN Entertainment Centre - a family friendly event.
Eight motorcycle riders are pitted against five obstacle courses with massive earth moving tyres, concrete pillars, logs and skip bins with only 90 seconds to complete. The Xtrial bikes are lightweight and designed for climbing and jumping.
"Wollongong's got a bit of history in motorcycling from Wayne Gardner to the Wollongong Motorcycle Club," promoter and rider Neil Price said. "And it has the best venue suited to it."
Mr Price said the competition is an intimate, intense and emotional experience with the audience as close as possible to the action.
"If it's too far away you really lose the depth and the perspective," he said. "This you're right up close, you can really see the riders and feel what happens."
The top six riders from the Australian Outdoor Championship are selected for the invitation only competition, with another two wildcards. The current rider to beat is Kyle Middleton from NSW.
The competition runs for about two-and-a-half hours with interactive elements throughout, while children will get a chance to meet the riders.
It follows last month's announcement Wollongong would also host Round 3 of the Australian Supercross Championship, with megastar Robbie Maddison a special guest performer.
The Supercross competition will also coincide with the three-day Australian Motorcycle Festival to be held at Lang Park from November 8 to 10.
The other major two-wheeled event the Illawarra will play host to is the prestigious 2022 UCI Road World Championships - an eight day cycling spectacle to attract 1000 competitors, 300,000 spectators and a worldwide television audience of more than 200 million people.
