Worrall had been playing English county cricket with Gloucestershire but has suffered another stress fracture in his back.

The paceman will return to Adelaide for rehabilitation and won't bowl for at least three months, ruling him out of contention for Australia's Test series against starting in August.

Worrall had been touted as an Ashes candidate because his swing bowling abilities are considered ripe for English conditions.

But his latest county stint ended when he was hurt while playing for Gloucestershire in a 50-over competition.

"Dan has had an interrupted domestic season in Australia with injury but came to England fully fit," Gloucestershire said in a statement.

"Unfortunately, during the 50-over competition Dan suffered some back pain.

"Dan had multiple investigations where the Gloucestershire medical team eventually diagnosed a stress fracture in his back."

Worrall, 27, returned to county ranks with the purpose of pressing his Ashes claims after yet another injury-interrupted Australian summer.

Worrall suffered back problems in 2017 and again last year, and was also troubled by a foot and hamstring injuries which restricted his output for SA.
