Woonona is the South Coast's oldest women's bowls club with club presidents from 14 District clubs, plus Sandra Jowett from the NSW Womens's Bowls Association among 91 guests who gathered to celebrate the club's 80th anniversary.
The special day included a game of bowls and a special 80th birthday luncheon.
The Woonona women's club has won 10 District pennant flags, plus two state titles and has a host of significant members, including its oldest bowler, 96-year-old Olwyn Roberts who still plays in short games.
Eily Symes is the longest-serving member with 53 years patronage, followed by other beloved members Betty Farmilo (42 years service), Mary Whitehead (41 years) and Maureen Appleton with four decades of loyal support.
The club's top performers in 2019 include Rhonda Brown and Vicki Bott who clinched the prestigious District Pairs, while Linda Adams won the Major Singles in a great performance after only joining as a member in 2014.
Woonona BC will have a double celebration in 2019 when the men's bowling club - also the oldest in the region - commemorates its 125th birthday in September.
