White's departure has been an open secret in the Illawarra after being told he was not part of the Hawks plans going forward.
The 31-year-old had an oft-expressed desire to remain in Wollongong where he's well settled with partner Rachel and their six-month-old son.
However, he was forced to look elsewhere and will continue his 250-plus game NBL career with the 36ers.
Ironically it's where he became public enemy number one in previous finals duels with former 36er Jerome Randle.
He will leave a defensive void in the Hawks back court that now looks decidedly youthful in Emmett Naar, Sunday Dech and Angus Glover.
The roster also includes Todd Blanchfield, veterans Tim Coenraad and AJ Ogilvy and young-guns Daniel Grida and Sam Froling
The Hawks still have three import spots to fill on their roster.
