University of Wollongong and Destination Wollongong helped secure THETA for the city. It is considered the major biennial conference in Australasia promoting the intelligent use of information technology in higher education and research.
With so much interest focusing on the city this week Advantage Wollongong hosted a networking event for THETA delegates at the University of Wollongong Innovation Campus on Monday night.
It followed tours of the campus and preceded two more days of conferencing at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach.
Easy Agile's Nick Muldoon helped welcome the visitors after being active in creating interest in Wollongong's IT capabilities.
The social gathering hosted by Advantage Wollongong was an opportunity for information technology businesses including multinational companies to interact. Among the 30 IT firms exhibiting at the Novotel are Cisco, Dell and Salesforce.
Advantage Wollongong is a partnership between the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, Wollongong City Council and UOW to attract new business to the city.
Dept of Premier and Cabinet regional business development manager Donatella D'Amico said bringing so many delegates to Wollongong was a chance for them to learn more about the city's IT industry.
