The botanic garden at Keiraville will run a range of free and family-friendly activities for the special open day, from 10am to 2pm.

It's to "highlight the significant work they do to ensure plant species survive into the future," said Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery.

There will be native and exotic plants on sale, tours through the nursery complex showing where things are grown and where conservation programs are based, workshops on how to build a bee or insect hotel, kids' seed plantings, live music, plus a barbecue and coffee.

Wollongong Botanic Garden is hoping you'll find your inner botanist in the buzz of activities for Botanic Gardens Day on Sunday 26 May.

The garden will be buzzing with a range of free activities throughout the day from 10am, including behind the scene tours, hands-on gardening workshops and a garden play.

Acting curator of the botanic garden Karen Holmes said there would also be a theatrical play, No More Do Dos, at the discovery centre lawn for children.
