So when she learned no ethics classes were offered at Hayes Park Public School, she promptly volunteered to be the school's ethics teacher and program coordinator.
The move was relatively simple as Ms Hansen also teaches English and academic skills to international students through UOW College.
But Primary Ethics' Wollongong regional manager Ann Hollifield said teaching experience was not a pre-requisite for volunteering as an ethics teacher.
The not-for-profit Primary Ethics is holding a free ethics teacher training session in Wollongong on June 1 and 2 and is seeking participants to be part of the growing program.
"We now have 40 schools in the region offering ethics classes, and with every teacher trained, another 20 or so children can take part in the classes," Ms Hollifield said.
Ms Hansen said she learned from personal experience that parents had to volunteer to be trained up as ethics teachers to start classes at their children's schools.
"Primary Ethics is about helping children find their voice and give reasons for their opinions. This empowers children to build resilience to peer pressure and ask questions before going along with something, as well as develop their critical thinking skills," she said.
Ms Hansen encouraged more parents to take the plunge and volunteer as an ethics teacher.
"The training is great.......We are trained not to impose our own views on the students but to model curiosity, which I really liked.
"There is a lot of support provided by Primary Ethics and the other ethics volunteers in the Wollongong region."
Alicia Rich and Kate Flack have since joined at Hayes Park, with Ms Hansen hopeful that with a couple more volunteers, ethics classes can be offered to all years from K - 6 in 2020.
"I have been surprised and delighted by the students I teach," she said.
"Sometimes I think a topic or question may be tricky for them and then they blow me away with their ideas. I have learned not to underestimate their ability to think critically and give reasons for their opinions."
