Car-handling facilities at Port Kembla will soon be three times larger than White Bay.

Car-handling facilities at Port Kembla will double in size as part of an expansion project that will create more than 150 jobs for the region.NSW Ports Minister Joe Tripodi will visit Wollongong today to announce details of the work, which will increase the car handling area by 100,000sqm and allow room for 10,000 vehicles to be parked on the berth. The new pre-delivery inspection facilities, where cars are prepared for sale and then held before delivery to retailers, will mean excess cars will no longer need to be trucked to White Bay in Sydney for storage.Mr Tripodi said 45 workers would work on the Port Kembla site initially."At the peak of construction it is anticipated that this number will be in excess of 100," he said. The development is being undertaken by Australand and is due for completion in August.
